# Use Cloneable with ArcGIS

> Build a configuration from your ArcGIS feature layers, field them in Cloneable, and send the results back to ArcGIS

Cloneable connects to ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. You build a Cloneable configuration from your feature layers, bring an area of features into a job, fielders capture it in the Cloneable app, and the results go back to your layers.

Nothing changes in ArcGIS until you send. Connecting, building a configuration and importing only read from ArcGIS.

## Before you start

* **ArcGIS turned on for your organization.** If you don't see an **ArcGIS** tab under Settings → Organization, contact Cloneable to turn it on.
* **An organization admin in Cloneable.** Only admins can connect ArcGIS and build configurations.
* **An ArcGIS account** that can see the feature services you want to use. Sending also needs layers that account can edit.

## Connect ArcGIS

You do this once per organization.

**1. Open the ArcGIS settings**

In Cloneable, go to **Settings → Organization → ArcGIS** and click **Connect ArcGIS**.

**2. Choose ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise**

* **ArcGIS Online:** click **Sign in with ArcGIS**. You sign in on arcgis.com with your ArcGIS login or your organization's single sign-on. There's no URL to enter.
* **ArcGIS Enterprise:** in your portal, add an application and add the **Redirect URL** that Cloneable shows to it. Then enter your **Portal URL** and the app's **Client ID**, and click **Continue to ArcGIS**.

**3. Check the connection**

The connection shows as **Connected**, with the ArcGIS account and host. Use **Browse layers** to see the services that account can reach. Browsing only reads.

> [!TIP]
>
> Sign in with a dedicated service account if you can. Depending on your edit identity setting (below), its name may show on the changes Cloneable writes.

Cloneable renews the sign-in automatically. If ArcGIS rejects it, the connection shows **Needs sign-in** and nothing is written until an admin clicks **Reconnect**.

## Choose who ArcGIS shows as the editor

Under **Settings → Organization → Features**, an admin chooses **ArcGIS: each person signs in**. The choice applies to everyone in your organization.

| Setting | Who ArcGIS records as the editor | What fielders do |
| - | - | - |
| **On** (default) | The person who made each change, with their own ArcGIS account | Each person connects their own ArcGIS account once. Changes they collect wait until they do. |
| **Off** | One integration account: the ArcGIS connection above | Nothing. All edits in ArcGIS show as that account, and your organization is responsible for licensing it. |

With the setting on, people connect their account under **Settings → Account → ArcGIS → Connect your ArcGIS account**, or from the prompt on their phone. They only need to do it once; Cloneable renews it automatically.

## Build a configuration from your layers

**1. Start from ArcGIS**

In the configuration manager, click **New configuration → From ArcGIS layers**.

**2. Source**

Choose the connection. Then find the feature service and click **Use this service**. Each layer shows its geometry, feature count, and whether the account **can write** to it or it's **read only**.

**3. Identify**

Tell Cloneable what each layer is. Layers left on **Skip** aren't used.

| Layer type | Choices |
| - | - |
| Points | Pole, Guy anchor, Custom point |
| Lines | Span, Custom line, Polyline |
| Tables linked to a layer you use | **Related records**: one row per feature. **Separate records, many each**: each row becomes its own record linked to the feature, for things like inspections. |
| Polygons | Not brought in yet |

For layers that store elevation (Z), choose **Z: keep ArcGIS's** (default), **Z: device elevation** or **Z: always 0**.

**4. Fields**

For each column, choose how it's filled. The right-hand side shows exactly which ArcGIS column it goes back to.

| Mode | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Crew | The crew enters it |
| Auto | Cloneable computes it from the measurements, such as attachment heights |
| Suggested | An expression offers a value; the crew taps to use it |
| Calculated | An expression calculates it on the phone as values change; the crew sees it, read-only |
| Fixed | Always the same value |
| Off | Not collected. ArcGIS keeps whatever it already has. |

Dropdowns come from your ArcGIS domains, including subtype domains. Columns ArcGIS keeps read-only can only be Crew or Off.

**5. Create**

Name the configuration, choose measurement units (feet, feet and inches, or meters), and click **Create configuration**.

The field map is saved with the configuration, so imports and sends use the same columns. If the ArcGIS schema changes later, import and send stop until you build an updated configuration.

## Import an area into a job

**1. Open Import from ArcGIS**

Click **Import ArcGIS layers as a job** when the configuration is created. You can also choose **Import from ArcGIS** when you create a job.

**2. Choose the area**

Pick the configuration. To bring in part of your layers, enter an ArcGIS definition query under **Only features where**, for example `RouteName = 'Route 12'`. Leave it empty to bring in everything.

**3. Choose the job**

Create a new job or add to an existing one.

**4. Preview, then import**

The preview shows what will be created and updated. Click **Start import**.

The import runs on Cloneable's servers, showing “x of y objects”. You can leave the page: it keeps going and shows its progress when you come back. **Stop** finishes the objects being written and stops.

> [!TIP]
>
> Importing again updates the same objects. Nothing is duplicated, and a pole a fielder moved isn't moved back. Spans connect to poles within 25 m of the line's ends.

## Field the job

Fielders open the job in the Cloneable iOS app and capture each object. Dropdowns show your ArcGIS domain values. If your organization uses individual sign-in, each fielder connects their ArcGIS account once, from the prompt on their phone.

## Send results back to ArcGIS

**1. Open Send to ArcGIS**

On the job's map, click **Export data → Send to ArcGIS**.

**2. Review**

By default, Cloneable sends to **your layers**: each object updates the feature it came from, or is added. To keep your source layers untouched, click **Send to another layer** and choose a layer marked **can write**, such as a separate collection layer. Cloneable remembers the choice for the configuration.

The review shows what **Will add**, **Will update**, is **Already in ArcGIS**, is **Held back** and why, and any **Related table rows**. A check at the top says who the edits will be written as, and lists anyone whose features are waiting on their ArcGIS sign-in.

**3. Send**

Tick **Write to … Changes are live in ArcGIS** and click **Send N changes to ArcGIS**.

The send runs in the background, layer by layer. You can close the dialog: it keeps going and shows its progress when you open it again. **Stop sending** finishes the objects being sent and stops; what was sent stays sent.

Sending again only sends what changed since the last send. Measurement photos are sent with the measured heights drawn on. Heights for poles that haven't been measured yet are left empty, never written as 0.

## Limitations

* **Versioned data:** Cloneable can't send to versioned data yet (ArcGIS Enterprise traditional or branch versioning). Import still works.
* **Polygons and multipoints:** not brought in or sent yet.
* **Related table rows:** photos aren't sent for related table rows yet.
* **Large layers:** an import reads up to 20,000 features per layer. Narrow the area with **Only features where** and import the rest separately.
* **Clearing values:** sending adds and updates features. It never deletes features or clears values in ArcGIS.
