# Tracing tips

> Work faster and catch mistakes: midspans shot from the other side, the 3D view and keyboard shortcuts

## Photos taken from the other side

A pole or midspan photographed from the opposite side shows the wires in reverse, left to right. That makes it easy to land a wire on the wrong pin.

* Click **Mirror** on the card's photo to flip it so the conductors line up with the card next to it. Click **Mirrored** to show the photo as shot again. Cloneable never mirrors a photo on its own.
* Use the colored rings while landing: they suggest the matching pin for each waiting wire, in the same order as the pole before.

## Midspan perspective

Wires on a crossarm sit at different distances from the camera, so at midspan the nearer wire can look higher or lower than it is. Cloneable corrects each midspan tap for this, using where that wire sits on the arm.

That means the label matters: a tap labeled as the wrong wire gets the wrong correction, and its height comes out wrong. If a midspan card says wires on one arm are far apart, check the labels first. See [Midspan wires on one arm far apart](/guides/tracing/issues-and-fixes#midspan-wires-on-one-arm-far-apart).

## Check your work in 3D

The view controls next to the bottom bar change how you see the line:

* **Top down**: a flat, subway-style map of every wire, with colored lines, pole stations and end marks.
* **3D**: a side-on view with each pole, crossarm and wire sagging between its attachments. Crossed or misplaced wires stand out quickly.
* **Flip** (with two or more cards open): turn the view 180° so the other end of the line reads on the left.
* The north button faces the map north again.

> Right-drag on the map to tilt it by hand.

## Keyboard shortcuts

| Key | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Cmd+Z** / **Ctrl+Z** | Undo the last change |
| **→** or **↓** | Next segment (without the check that **Next segment** runs) |
| **←** or **↑** | Previous segment |
| **Home** / **End** | First or last segment of the line |
| **N** | While walking the line, jump to the next segment that isn't traced yet |
| **Esc** | Close the top menu, or close the open cards and stop the walk |
| **F** | In the attachment picker, open **Framings** |
| **P** | In the attachment picker, open **Presets** |
| **1** to **9** | In the attachment picker, pick a category |
| **Enter** | In a pin's panel, **Done** |

## More tips

* **Open the span, not the pole.** Clicking a span line opens both poles and the midspans between them in one go.
* **Place the framing first, then its wires.** The picker reminds you when your catalog has framings.
* **Save repeated setups as presets.** If many poles carry the same stack, save it once with **Save assembly as preset** and stamp it with **P**.
* **Watch the save status.** The bottom bar shows **Saved** once your work has reached Cloneable.
* **Look at the pole from the street.** In a pole card's tools menu, **Street View** opens Google Street View aimed at the pole in a new tab.
