Cloneable works alongside SPIDAcalc. Your SPIDAcalc client file becomes a Cloneable configuration, fielders collect poles and photos in the Cloneable app, you trace the line on the map, and Cloneable exports an exchange file that opens in SPIDAcalc with the existing conditions already modeled.

What you can do

  • Set up from your client file. Your poles, owners, anchors, parts and location forms become the pick lists and fields fielders use. See Set up from your client file.
  • Collect in the field. Fielders capture poles, spans, midspans and guy anchors in the Cloneable app with measured photos.
  • Trace the line. On the map, you mark each pole’s attachments and connect every wire from pole to pole. See Wire tracing.
  • Export to SPIDAcalc. Download an exchange file (.exchange.spida) that opens in SPIDAcalc ready for design. See Export to SPIDAcalc.
  • Import a SPIDAcalc project. Bring an existing project into Cloneable as a job, with its poles, spans, anchors, attachments and wires. See Import a SPIDAcalc project.

Before you start

  • SPIDAcalc must be switched on for your organization. If you see SPIDA is not enabled for this organization, contact Cloneable support.
  • An organization admin to create the configuration. Anyone can trace and export afterwards.
  • Your SPIDAcalc client file (.client), the same one your engineers use in SPIDAcalc.

Supported SPIDAcalc versions

Cloneable works with client files and projects from SPIDAcalc 7.0 through 26.0. Cloneable reads the version from your client file and writes exports for that version, so the file opens in the SPIDAcalc your team runs. To change it, open the configuration, go to Project setup and pick a different SPIDAcalc version.
If you export for an older version, anything that version can’t hold is listed before you download, under Not in followed by the version name.

What Cloneable exports and what stays in SPIDAcalc

Cloneable exports the existing conditions of each pole and span:
  • Pole location, label, tag, catalog pole, owner, ground-line circumference and height
  • Crossarms, insulators, wires, equipment, guys and anchors, at their measured heights
  • Which wire runs to which pole, wire tension and midspan heights
  • Location forms and other location details you chose to collect
  • Pole lean, when Send pole lean to SPIDA is on in the configuration’s Project setup
You do the engineering in SPIDAcalc: design changes, loading and tension analysis, and results. Cloneable doesn’t run analysis.

Set up in three steps

1

Build a configuration from your client file

An organization admin does this once per client file. See Set up from your client file.
2

Collect and trace

Create jobs with that configuration, collect in the field, then trace the wires on the map. See Trace a line.
3

Export

Check the readiness list, download the exchange file and open it in SPIDAcalc. See Export to SPIDAcalc.

Import a SPIDAcalc project

You can bring an existing SPIDAcalc project into Cloneable as a new job, for example to field-check an older design.
  1. On the dashboard, click Add job and choose Import from KML.
  2. Upload the SPIDAcalc project file (.spida). The upload accepts it alongside KML, KMZ and GeoJSON.
  3. Choose the configuration built from the same client file, and finish the import.
Cloneable creates the poles, spans, midspans and guy anchors, and brings in each pole’s attachments and the traced wires between them. Imported attachments have no photo; they show on the map and export again as they came in.
